Andrei Filipov is dirigent van het grootste orkest van Rusland; het Bolshoi Orkest. Als hij tijdens het communistische bewind besluit geen Joden te ontslaan, verliest hij zijn positie. In de daaropvolgende jaren werkt Andrei nog steeds in hetzelfde gebouw, maar nu als schoonmaker. Tijdens zijn werk vindt hij een belangrijke fax en Andrei besluit gebruik te maken van deze wel heel bijzondere kans.
